It’s hard to believe that in a country like the United States, 14.4 percent of its citizens, or more than 35 million people, don’t have enough to eat. Ironically, just this year, Forbes.com reported that, “Despite the turbulence in the U.S. markets, Americans account for 42 percent of the world's billionaires and 37 percent of the total wealth.”

These numbers just don’t add up. Through our documentary, we explore how we have allowed this silent crisis to grow out of control in a society that is home to almost half of the world’s wealthiest individuals. By following several Philadelphia families in their struggle to put food on the table, we learn through their eyes the impact of hunger at a personal level: its effect on the family structure, relationships, self-esteem, access to social resources, and the ability to hope and set goals for a better future.

I hope you will feel, as I do, that addressing hunger in America is of critical importance to our families as well as our national security, and that you will join me in this effort by helping us give this message and these families a voice.

More coming soon...
